5.01.2009 Big News: Ultrasound Bill Passes Senate, Justice Souter Retires

Great news: Late yesterday, the Texas Senate passed the ultrasound bill by a 20-9 vote!  Your calls and work made a difference.  We now need the Senate’s vote to pass this life-saving legislation to be followed in the House!  You can make a difference by calling the Texas House State Affairs Committee to ask them to vote for the ultrasound bill, HB 36!  Find out more by visiting our Texas Legislative Update blog!

Also late yesterday, word arose that U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter will retire after the current term ends in June.  Kelly Shackelford, president of Free Market Foundation [www.freemarket.org], released this statement to the press: “President Obama ran as a moderate, not an extremist.  Now, the spotlight is on.  If he picks a liberal activist judge instead of a moderate, the American people will know it, and they won’t like it.  We hope he won’t make that mistake. Judicial activism robs the power of self-government from the American people.”

Listen to Point of View today from 1-3 p.m. today to hear Kelly discuss this and other issues!  Kelly co-hosts Point of View every Friday, which is broadcast on over 400 stations nationally!  Click here to find a station in your area, or click here to listen online!

3.09.2009 WASHINGTON – In a White House ceremony today, President Barack Obama signed an executive order to allow federal funding of research that will require the killing of human embryos. Douglas Johnson, a spokesman for the National Right to Life Committee said "It is a sad day when the federal government will fund research that exploits living members of the human species as raw material for research. Obama's order also places our society on a very steep, very slippery slope. Many researchers will not be satisfied to use only so-called surplus embryos. Many researchers are already demanding federal support for research in which human embryos would be created for the specific purpose of research, through human cloning and other methods, and there was nothing in the President's remarks today to limit NIH to the use of so-called surplus embryos created in IVF clinics. This sets the stage for an attack on the Dickey-Wicker law, which since 1995 has been a provision of the annual appropriations bills for federal health programs. This law prohibits federal funding of 'the creation of a human embryo or embryos for research purposes; or research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death . . .'  Any member of Congress who votes for legislation to repeal this law is voting to allow federal funding of human embryo farms, created through the use of human cloning." Pro-life Education Rally January 20, 2008 Lakeview Bible Fellowship - Pilot Point                                         Back to Top

A Pro-life Rally was conducted Sunday evening at Lakeview Bible Fellowship Church in Pilot Point, Texas. This was a very special moment for all those there since it was focused upon the January 22, 1973 Roe v Wade decision and this was the first rally conducted by the newly formed Denton County Right To Life (DCRTL) chapter of Texas Right to Life. The DCRTL chapter had setup a table with many different free information brochures, bumper stickers, and articles thanks to Ginger Tscheope (DCRTL Advisory Board). Pastor Mark Wildt opened the rally with a brief message highlighting the Pro-life answers to 8 pro-choice questions. Pastor Mark then turned it over to Tyler Gullette (DCRTL Church Liaison Director) who gave a very compelling presentation. He presented the chapter’s mission and plans, he shared statistics, and then explained how everyone must realize they are making a Godly decision about this “watershed” issue when they join and standup for Pro-life. After Tyler’s presentation, everyone joined together in a prayer circle. Everyone then pickup materials and approximately 20% of those present joined the DCRTL chapter. Several indicated their wish to actively participate in the chapter. Thank you Lord.
